jayoublie asked: If you could live and work anywhere in the world outside Canada, where would you choose to live?

Oh goodness. There’s a really strong temptation to be pathetic about this and just list the parts of the US that are most like Vancouver anyway - like, Seattle or Portland or San Francisco. But that’s no fun at all, right?

So this is actually a really tricky question. I mean, I think it would be awesome to live in Tel Aviv (in terms of food and culture and weather and economy) if Israel had their shit together regarding Palestine but that’s obviously not something I’m up for as it currently stands - and I’m not optimistic things will change in the near future. I’ve heard that the big cities in southwestern Brazil (e.g., Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo) are really busy and exciting and otherwise amazing, but I know no Portuguese whatsoever and given how terrible my French and Spanish are that would be a big learning curve. Urban parts of Scotland (e.g. Aberdeen, Stirling, Edinburgh) seem really nice, and I think it would be really cool to learn more about that side of my family (the side that came here from Aberdeenshire, which is the side with the ginger genes) but not entirely sure what kind of work I could ever find there.

This is actually something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately, as prospects for employment in Canada in my field are pretty limited.
