Really? The majority of the people I know who have succeeded in finance have been neither white nor straight, and none are both. Obviously there’s a huge sample selection issue there (in that I’m a gay guy who goes to school in a city where most people my age aren’t white). But yeah, if it interests you and if you’re good at it, then by all means apply. I’d argue that they’re more willing to hire whoever seems the smartest than any other personal characteristics than most businesses, at least for analyst-type positions.
